Northfield Savings Bank announces year-end community contributions totaling $127,500 to support organizations addressing housing and food insecurity across Vermont.

As part of its year-end giving, Northfield Savings Bank provided:

  • $25,000 to Let’s Build Homes to support their mission to create a Vermont of abundant housing for households of all income levels where communities thrive in harmony with our working lands.

  • $25,000 to Downstreet Housing & Community Development to support the acquisition and rehabilitation of the Speranza Inn at 173 South Main Street in Barre City. The existing 42-unit hotel will continue operating as a shelter resource, providing safe and stable accommodation for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, needing medical respite, or facing other short-term housing crises.

  • $25,000 to Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity to create more affordable homeownership opportunities for families in the community.

  • $25,000 to Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity to support construction of an energy‑efficient duplex in Northfield. The project will create two permanently affordable homes, one reserved for a veteran’s family.

  • $10,000 to COTS to help end homelessness and provide emergency shelter, services, and long-term housing for people who are experiencing homelessness or are marginally housed.

  • $10,000 to the Vermont Foodbank to help ensure Vermonters have consistent access to nutritious food.

  • $7,500 to Champlain Housing Trust to advance its efforts to expand safe, permanently affordable homes for Vermonters.

“Vermonters are feeling the strain of a historic housing shortage, and too many are struggling to put food on the table,” said Joseph Bator, President and CEO of Northfield Savings Bank. “By supporting organizations that provide immediate shelter, long‑term affordable housing, and essential access to nutritious food, we’re investing in the stability and well‑being of our communities.”

Northfield Savings Bank’s gifts underscore a commitment to collaborative solutions, pairing investments that expand shelter capacity and affordable housing with support for food insecurity, ensuring Vermonters have the resources they need to thrive.
