In early June, jazz music fills the air from Church Street to the Burlington waterfront during the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. The festival has been ranked as one of the top 100 events in North America (three years running) by the American Bus Association, and one of the top ten festivals in the world by the Chicago Press Review’s Music Festival Guide.

Over 40,000 people attend each year and the estimated benefit to the local economy is $4 million. This ten day event is a non-profit endeavor produced by the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, in association with Burlington City Arts.

Its mission is to:

  • broaden awareness and appreciation of jazz through quality live performances by national and regional artists
  • present educational activities that illuminate the art form for students of all ages and backgrounds
  • showcase Vermont jazz artists, including Vermont middle- and high-school students
  • create a vital city-wide community festival
