The Northfield Savings Bank debit card is a convenient way to track your spending accurately -- and is much safer than carrying cash. Each time you make a purchase using your debit card, your monthly bank statement will include all the transaction details: when, where and how much you spent.

Use it as an ATM card

The debit card works just like an ATM card at our convenient automated teller machines. As a founding member of the Falcon Network, our customers can save money by accessing any of over 100 surcharge-free ATM locations throughout Vermont. We also belong to national and international networks for access to even more ATM locations. Debit card holders can also make higher-than-average withdrawals; you may withdraw up to $500 of the available balance in your checking or savings account each day.

Allpoint ATM Network

NSB customers can also access over 55,000 Allpoint ATMs surcharge-free. Locations include the US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the UK and even Australia.

Please note: Due to the technical limitations of certain types of ATMs, the system is not able to prevent the "surcharge message" screen from appearing on many Allpoint ATMs. You should continue the transaction by answering "yes" on this screen. Your receipt will show you were not charged a fee.

Use it as a debit card

Whether you are shopping around the corner or around the world, there are no bills to pay later; purchase amounts are automatically withdrawn from your checking account. Because it carries the MasterCard symbol, our debit card is welcome anywhere MasterCard is accepted. Your daily spending limit is up to $2,500 of your available balance in your primary checking account.

Remember to say, "credit" and sign for your transactions

"Will that be credit or debit?" This is a common question at many checkout stands. Selecting credit provides you with the most details when the transaction shows on your statement. Also, by selecting credit and signing for your transaction, you will be entered into any contest or promotion being run by MasterCard. MasterCard gives away fabulous vacations, cars, houses, and even cash. But only those who say "credit" and sign for their purchases are entered to win. If your card is ever lost or stolen, call us immediately at 800-NSB-CASH. Instructions on how to report the loss are available 24 hours a day.

You can use your debit card as long as you have an Northfield Savings Bank checking account.

Apply for an ATM/debit card

If you have a Northfield Savings Bank checking account, you can use our NSB MasterMoney debit card -- an ATM card and a debit card in one. Get an ATM/Debit Card Agreement form, visit your local branch, or contact Customer Service to request one


Combined Monthly Statement

Combined statements that include your checking, club, and savings accounts in one report (enrollment required).


Direct Deposit

Have your paycheck or Social Security check deposited directly to your Northfield Savings Bank checking or savings account (or to both if your employer allows). Direct deposit is convenient and it is easy to sign up with your employer or the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Ask your employer if direct deposit is available. Many local employers offer direct deposit, and it saves companies time and money. The SSA strongly recommends direct deposit -- read all about it at the SSA web site. We can even provide you with the SSA form.

Qualified accounts

You can direct deposit into any Northfield Savings Bank checking or savings account.

How it works

Money is automatically deposited into the account(s) you designate. You still receive a pay stub or receipt for your records, and you can verify the deposit using the NSB PhoneBank or eNSB.

What it costs

Overdraft Protection Services 

The best way to avoid overdrafts and fees is to keep track of your account balance by entering all checks, debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals in your check register, reconcile your checkbook regularly and manage your finances responsibly. However, if a mistake occurs, Northfield Savings Bank offers several ways to cover overdrafts.

Sweeps
Avoid Bounced Checks

Bouncing a check or incurring a service fee because your balance drops too low can happen to anyone, but it does not have to happen to you. Link your checking account to a Northfield Savings Bank savings account and you can have money transferred automatically to protect against these fees.

Qualified accounts

You can link any Northfield Savings Bank checking account to a regular Savings or Money Market Savings account. As long as it is a statement account, it can be linked.

You can even protect two accounts against overdraft charges -- just designate a secondary checking account on your form. However, you can only set up minimum balance protection for your primary checking account.

How it works

Money is automatically drawn in $100 increments to prevent an overdraft fee (overdraft protection) or service charge (minimum balance protection) from being incurred. The number of automatic preauthorized and telephone transfer withdrawals from your savings account to another Northfield Savings Bank account or to a third party is limited to six per month.

The available balance in your sweep accounts are not included when attempting ATM withdrawals or debit card purchases.

Overdraft Protection Line of Credit

Apply for this unsecured line of credit to use with your checking account.  There is no fee for this service unless you access the line. The annual percentage rate of 14% is charged only to the outstanding balance on the line of credit. Applications are available at your local branch or by calling 800-NSB-CASH.

Home Equity Line of Credit

Bounce Protection

Bounce Protection is a discretionary overdraft service that provides you a safety net up to an automatically assigned overdraft limit. Your Bounce Protection limit may be available for checks, automatic bill payments and recurring debit card payments.

At your request, we may authorize and pay ATM transfers or withdrawals and everyday debit card purchases using your limit, and your overdraft limit will be available to authorize card transactions. To request this service please review the following documents, then call us at 800-NSB-CASH or stop by any branch.

If an overdraft is approved by using your Bounce Protection  limit, you may be assessed our overdraft paid item fee of $30 for each item created by check, in-person withdrawals, ATM withdrawals or other electronic means paid under the limit. All negative balances must be brought positive within 30 calendar days. Northfield Savings Bank reserves the right not to pay if account is not kept in good standing.

Check images are available as part of our ongoing commitment to making your banking more convenient. You can receive eStatements with images of your checks presented in numerical order. eStatements and images can be saved electronically and printed at your convenience. This service is available through eNSB, our online banking program.
