About NSB Community Giving Giving is part of our history.

Northfield Savings Bank is dedicated to serving its customers in many ways: with great service from our staff, with strong product offerings to meet your financial needs, and with our tradition of giving 10% of our profits to Vermont community organizations.

Over the years, we've contributed to hundreds of organizations. In the last 10 years alone, we've given over $4,500,000 to charitable organizations. Our staff members are active in a wide variety of organizations, and we're always ready to provide support for local non-profit groups.

We encourage you to review the donation programs below, and follow the guidelines to request funds for your organization. Find out how we can help your organization serve our shared community!

Community Gifts - Donations of less than $3,000

There are several ways to request community donations. Please refer to our newly revised Community Gift Guidelines, application, and review schedule.

In-Kind Donations

NSB regularly donates used computer equipment, office equipment, and furniture to community organizations. For more information, please contact us:

Education and Scholarships

Besides donating to local organizations and sponsoring educational events, NSB also has specific programs to support some specific educational and cultural initiatives.
  • Seaver Fund: This Fund was created in honor of former NSB President Leslie G. Seaver, and his work in helping develop Northfield's community auditorium, the Mary Granai Corrigan Auditorium. The Fund supports artistic, cultural, educational and scientific events within the Northfield community. For more information or a copy of the Grant Proposal Guidelines, please contact the Seaver Fund directly.

NSB Community Gift Guidelines

As a community financial institution, Northfield Savings Bank has a responsibility to support organizations and activites contributing to the economic and social well being of the Vermont communities it serves.

NSB's Charitable Giving Policy is designed as a guide for the selection of recipients, and to establish the breadth and scope of contributions. It also provides a framework assuring the fair and objective evaluation of funding candidates.

Northfield Savings Bank will:
  1. Contribute to charitable or non-profit organizations with a 501(c)3 designation, not to individuals.
  2. Contribute to Vermont-based nonprofit organizations serving the needs of and benefiting people living within its service area of Central Vermont and Chittenden County.
  3. Give priority to programs meeting the human service and housing needs of low to moderate income individuals, and programs supporting job development.
  4. Consider the severity of need, the level of funding available from other sources and the likelihood the requested donation will help accomplish desired outcomes.
Generally, organizations and activities meeting the established criteria will fall into the following categories:
  1. Healthcare and human services
  2. Education
  3. Job development
  4. Housing
  5. Programs for at-risk or low to moderate income individuals and families
  6. Performing arts and cultural activities
  7. Environmental and preservation
NSB generally will not contribute to:
  1. Multi year capital facility or endowment campaigns
  2. National charities, or their local affiliates
  3. Municipalities or subdivisions thereof, such as school districts and recreation departments or organizations receiving the majority of their funding from governmental sources
  4. Private schools (pre-school, primary and secondary)
  5. Special interest groups such as political, labor, religious, fraternal, veterans lobbying organizations, or service clubs
  6. Multiple requests within the same calendar year
Application and Approval Process

Northfield Savings Bank will accept written requests only. Organizations can find a charitable giving request form available on the Bank's website at www.nsbvt.com, or at any NSB branch.

An annual budget approved by NSB's Board of Trustees establishes the maximum level of charitable contributions for the ensuing year. Branch Managers are authorized to approve up to $1,200 in donations annually, in increments of $200 or less. The Marketing Department is authorized to approve requests up to $1,500. Requests greater than $1,500 require the approval of the Bank's President.

Complete applications will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. You will be notified in writing of your approval or denial according to the schedule below.

The NSB Foundation

Following an in-depth study of other philanthropic models around the country, the NSB Foundation decided to initiate a multi-year, single issue funding focus in an effort to create more positive long-term results. The NSB Foundation Board has chosen to initially focus on the complex social problem of childhood hunger and food insecurity. The Foundation partnered with The Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger, who will in turn, collaborate with qualified organizations in Chittenden County and Central Vermont. Click here for additional information.

Beginning in the fall of 2006, the NSB Foundation committed substantially all of its annual funding to projects seeking to achieve sustainable solutions to childhood hunger and food insecurity. The NSB Foundation is not able to consider any other requests for funding at this time.

Separate from the NSB Foundation, Northfield Savings Bank will continue donating approximately $150,000 per year to fund a variety of Vermont non-profit organizations. Click here for guidelines and application procedures.
